Kayla stands in her washroom, desperately trying to rid her bathtub
of the red splotches caused by her father's suicide. Her mother, completely unnerved by the event had taken to drinking as a way to cope and finds herself pushing further and further from her daughter. Mrs. Reed had developed the daily habit of viciously scrubbing her wrist as if in an attempt to free herself of the bar code tattoo. But what is her purpose in doing this? And why does she keep repeating that it was the bar code tattoo that killed her husband? Weakened by recent events, Kayla turns to her neighbor Gene for advice. Gene works for Global-1, the international affliction of corporations and billionaires that began popularizing the bar code tattoo. Wanting to know more about the bar code tattoo and why her mother kept talking as if it was evil, Kayla questioned Gene. Though she is seeking answers, Kayla only discovers more questions on her search for the truth.
